10 homes evacuated after 2 WWII-era bombs found
A homeowner in the Pine Brook subdivision in the Summit on Tuesday found two World War II-era bombs while digging in his yard.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department bomb squad received a call about the bombs around 3:30 p.m., said Monique Mack, a sheriff's department spokeswoman. One of the 250-pound bombs had small explosive charges in it, Mack said. The second did not.
Ten homes in the neighborhood were evacuated after the bomb was discovered, Mack said. All residents were allowed back into their houses by 7 p.m.
