Columbias homeland security bomb team and the FBI are investigating a suspicious package found at the Matthew Perry federal courthouse in downtown Columbia, Columbia fire chief Aubrey Jenkins said about 1:15 p.m. today.
The courthouse has been evacuated, he said.
"We are taking x-rays of it right now," Jenkins said. "We are kind of in a holding pattern trying to see what is inside it."
The package was found inside the courthouse, he said.
Columbia city police have blocked off traffic on Park and Calhoun streets around the courthouse, city officials said.
