This is the second phase of the effort to seek more information on the real victory of the North when the “Ranaviru Week” is being commemorated at a time when an year had elapsed since the gallant soldiers achieved the significant triumph, rooting out terrorism from the entire country.

The Southern polity was embroiled in fear and hesitated not only to talk about the Mullaitivu Forest but also hear information of the location. No one would have dreamt of that the site, which housed one of the covert operations headquarters of the LTTE terrorists would once again become part of the motherland.

It was in the year 2008 that operations to devastate this tiger Kingdom in the Mullaitivu forest were unveiled. This was planned under the guidance and prudent leadership of the President, who is considered as Asia’s Pride. The Defence Secretary also made a valid contribution in the organizational activities, guiding the tri forces in the operations.

The Gallant troops, advanced step by step from Weli Oya in the South and from Jaffna in the North. They shattered all terrorist strongholds surrounding the Mullaitivu region. Each stronghold was raised to the ground in the face of continued attacks targeted by the Air Force.

The Mullaitivu Sea Tiger base was one of the locations where no one could reach. It also terrorized the entire South Asian region. This was restricted only to the past. Our brave soldiers made it invalid to the present in the face of Naval, Air and ground operations. Thus the troops succeeded in routing sea tiger terrorism from our seas.

“No War Zone” was a fresh phrase which entered our dictionary. Innocent civilians who were stranded in between the terrorists sought relief in the “No War Zone.” Our gallant soldiers making great sacrifices and dedications, succeeded in returning the Mullaitivu town to the motherland on January 26TH drawing to an end the most dreadful and complex period which altered the history. …

Mullaitivu which was won by our brave soldiers, making supreme sacrifices, has injected new life to the present generation.

Mankulam, Thunukkai, Oddusudan and Komalamunai are main towns which housed terrorist strongholds. At present development rays are falling into the Mankulam town. The people are engaged in their day to day live freely and peacefully, frequenting the shows in the town. Development of the Mankulam-Thunukkai Road has been completed with the mediation of the Urban Development Authority. The acceleration of the construction on the new Police Post was witnessed. In addition to Electricity and other essential services, health facilities are also being provided under the Government’s mediation. A proper transport service is also operative to reach Mullaitivu from the Mankulam Junction via the busy A-9 Highway.

In addition to development, administrative activities in Mullaitivu are being handled under the supervision of the Mullaitivu Divisional Secretariat Division. A significant event witnessed was the fulfillment of the responsibilities to the letter by the Government. Cement, roofing sheets and other essential building materials are being provided via Grama Niladhari Officers

We consider that this was a massive strength for the people who were making every effort to rise up forgetting the terror syndrome. It is not very far that these civilians would triumph in life through cultivation and business activities. The Mullaitivu polity is now geared to embraced with happiness and gratitude the bright future, ending the three decade old dark era.
