A seven member commission would be appointed to find out the root causes of the terrorist problem. A total study would be done to find solutions and reforms.
The commission will be able to make an estimate of the expenditure needed to function and an initial sum of Rs. 10 million has been allocated for the commission on a proposal made to Cabinet by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Media and Communication Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said at the Cabinet press briefing yesterday.
The commission will comprise representatives of the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural diversity of our nation.
The Commission would find the root causes of the terrorist problem and what happened during the last three decades which would be helpful for reforms that would go hand in hand with constitutional reforms too, he said. “We believe in a home grown solution to a home grown problem though other countries attempted to mediate in it. We are the ones who are fully aware of the problem we faced and the Commission’s recommendations would help us to rebuild the future without falling prey to the same problem again., he said.
