Three month deadline to renovate Wilpattu

Dilapidated infrastructure facilities at the Wilpattu National Park is set for speedy renovation on a directive by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The Minister who toured Wilpattu, during the weekend urged wildlife officials to renovate the road structure, camping sites, circuit bungalows within three months.
Wilpattu was neglected due to infiltration of the park by the LTTE. Since the scourge ended there is a gradual increase in visitors to Sri Lanka’s biggest wildlife sanctuary.
After the Park was reopened to the public in February 2010, an average of 70 visitors per day has been recorded, officials told the Minister. The income generated during March and April has exceeded Rs. 800,000.
