The clouds covering the Midlands this morning are expected to hang around through the day, and more thunderstorms are likely, according to the National Weather Service.
Theres a chance some of the storms this afternoon could reach the severe status, with high winds likely and hail possible, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
The afternoon commute could be more difficult than usual.
While the lightning, wind and hail is bad news, the storms are expected to bring up to an inch of rain to the parched state. The rainfall totals will be spotty, similar to Sundays. While .99 inches fell at Owens Field in downtown Columbia on Sunday, only .14 inches fell at Columbia Metropolitan Airport in Lexington County.
The rain-producing system is expected to clear out Tuesday.
