SC House could reconsider court fees veto

Lawmakers in the South Carolina House may get a second chance to override Gov. Mark Sanford's veto of legislation increasing state civil court fees.
Efforts to override the veto failed last week but legislators on Tuesday could reconsider that vote.
State Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal says the more than $21 million generated by the fees is needed to avoid layoffs of court reporters and law clerks who do the judges' legal legwork.
If the veto override fails, it is less likely the Legislature will be able to work out a compromise version of the state's $5 billion spending plan and adjourn early.
