Police have charged a woman with killing her 79-year-old boyfriend, a prominent South Carolina attorney.
York police chief Bill Mobley said Julia Phillips was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder in the death of Melvin Roberts on Feb. 4. Mobley said it's not clear whether Phillips is 70 years old or 66.
Mobley says Phillips has requested an attorney and she is being held until a bond hearing later this week.
Roberts was strangled with a plastic pull-tie and a gun had been fired at him from close range. The bullet went through his shirt and jacket, but not his body. Arrest warrants say Phillips had gunshot residue on her, but Mobley said no gun has been found.
Phillips had previously told police she was bound and gagged when Roberts was attacked.
