Campaign disclosure widened under House bill

More elected officials may have to disclose their campaign finances online.
House lawmakers agreed Thursday to a Senate-amended campaign finance disclosure bill. It requires members of county councils, city councils, school boards and other local government officials to disclose their campaign finances online just as state officials are required to do.
The Senate stripped out a portion of the House bill that would have eliminated the "blackout period" two weeks before elections during which money can be hidden from public view.
"I'll continue to fight for the other part of the bill (the elimination of the blackout period) when we come back next session," said Rep. Nathan Ballentine, R-Richland, one of several bill sponsors.
