A man authorities accuse of a sex crime against a child and who subsequently fled to Iran was arrested in Canada on Irmo arrest warrants and now is back in South Carolina.
Siamak Asghari, 54, is now at the Lexington County Detention Center where he awaits trial, the Irmo Police Department said.
Asghari is charged with committing a lewd act on a child in January 2004. He is suspected of fleeing to Iran after posting bond in 2004. He fought extradition from Canada after his arrest this month, but Canadian authorities decided to return him to the U.S.
The U.S. Marshal’s Office Fugitive Task Force transported him to South Carolina from New York.
