Officials are preparing to remove some abandoned boats near the South Carolina coast.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Monday about a dozen abandoned boats will be moved, many of them now along the Ashley River in Charleston.
Officials have obtained a $60,000 grant to pay for the work.
Charleston Police Sgt. Chad Womack says the project has been planned for months. Womack says legal notices had to be posted warning that the boats would be removed, to see if an owner would claim the craft.
Seven of the 12 boats are in one location. Five of the boats are 40-feet or longer. None appear to be salvageable. Most have been stripped of any valuables.
