The 10th South-East Asian Regional Scientific Meeting of the Epidemiological Association opens in Colombo.
It is being organized by the International Epidemiological Association. The meeting opened under the patronage of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena. Many foreign representatives are participating. The conference will focus attention on the maximum contribution that can be solicited from the people for public health. Discussions will also centre on the strengthening of public health programmes and to sectors to which priority should be given in the containment of epidemics. Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural sessions, the Health Minister underlined the need for the unstinted support of the people in the control of epidemic diseases. The three-day meeting draws to an end on Wednesday.
