The Postal Service which was paralysed in several areas due to the inclement weather and floods has returned to normality.
Postal and communication activities were seriously impacted by the torrential rain and floods which were experienced in 14 districts during the past few days. Several main and sub post offices were flooded while postal activities were paralysed due to the obstructions caused by floods and landslides to highways. With an improvement in the weather situation,
Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga announced that it has been possible to maintain the postal services as usual. He pointed out the initiatives taken to clear the backlog by the deployment of substitute workers on behalf of employees who had been directly effected by the calamity.
