Local BTI bacteria to control dengue

A special Presidential Task force will be launched to enhance the efficiency within the Health sector.

The Minister said that with the intention of the immediate resolution of problems in the health sector, a meeting will be held under the President’s patronage at 4.00 p.m. tomorrow during which the Presidential Task Force on Health will be set up. It will be represented by the Health Ministry, the Presidential Secretariat, the Environment Ministry, the Provincial Council and Local Government Ministry, the Education Ministry, the Disaster Management Ministry, the Defence Ministry and the Media Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Minister disclosed that measures will be adopted within the next 48 hours to expand the BTI bacteria produced locally for the control of Dengue. He pointed out that local specialists have found the BTI bacteria for the control of the disease. The bacteria brought from Cuba costs high. However, the expenditure incurred on the local BTI bacteria is minimal. By tomorrow afternoon, they expect a response on the local bacteria. Thereafter, the Minister said that they desired to expand the BTI bacteria and take necessary initiatives to destroy the Dengue mosquito.
