A programme has been launched to develop all Buddhist temples in the island as sacred sites.
The programme will include the preparation of proper deeds for the temples. Infrastructure will also be improved. Facilities for Buddhist monks will be enhanced in addition to the expansion of Dhamma education. 2600 Buddhist monks will be ordanised to mark the 2600th Sanbuddha Jayanthi.
Participating in a discussion Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said the aim of the programme is to bring about Buddhist resurgence and mould a society embedded with moral values. Chancellor of the Kelaniya University the Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma thera and Deputy Minister K.D. S. Gunawardena also participated in the occasion
