The Malaysian Government has relaxed its visa regulations for Sri Lanka and several other South Asian countries.
Transit travelers from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh will be offered a chance to visit the country sans the need for a visa. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the “transit without visa” will be offered from the first of July after considering the advantage it would offer in terms of attracting more tourists from the region.
Malaysia previously offered a similar privilege to travelers from the Indian sub-continent. However, it was later revoked. The Malaysian Premier said the Home Ministry has suggested some methods that would avoid abuse of the facility.
