Newly elected MPs mediate to improve livelihoods in Kilinochchi

May 25, 2010 12:08:55 PM - itnnews.lk

An immediate programme is planned to improve the livelihoods of families resettled in Kilinochchi. A group of newly elected Parliamentarians headed by Namal Rajapaksa is mediating in this effort at the behest of the President.

The resettlement of civilians in Kilinochchi, liberated from the LTTE terrorists, is successfully being carried out. The group of new Parliamentarians recently toured the area to look into the infrastructure and other requirements needed by the resettled families. Minister Wimal Weerawansa and Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekera also joined them in the visit.

Attention was adverted to housing, health, education, highways, public amenities and youth affairs during a discussion held at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat. Parliamentarians Dr. Rohana Pushpakumara and Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle pledged their full support to the resolution of all problems which had surfaced in the Health sector.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa said a housing project will be launched for public employees. The group of new Parliamentarians inspected the Kilinochchi District Secretariat, the Water tank destroyed by the terrorists, and motor cycles and bicycles which had not been claimed by anyone. Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri and Parliamentarians Udith Lokubandara, Arundika Fernando, Shehan Semasinghe, Lohan Ratwatte, Dilum Amunugama, Roshan Ranasinghe and Kanaka Herath were among the new Parliamentarians who joined in this visit.
