About 300,000 displaced due to the activities of the LTTE terrorists had already been successfully resettled. They were resettled in their places of origin after developing the infrastructure. These activities took place under the “Uthuru Wasanthaya” programme which was operative with the direct guidance of Minister Basil Rajapaksa. About 4,500 still remain in welfare camps.
A special discussion targeting their resettlement within the next three months was held at the Vavuniya District Secretariat recently. It was attended by Ministers Milroy Fernando and Risath Bathiyudeen and Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan. However, measures will be adopted by the Government to resettle these civilians within the next three months based on the instructions of the President.
