Kidney ailments are rampant in the area due to the lack of clean drinking water. The Japanese government has donated the water filter as a solution for this problem. Dr. Akira Mura and Engineer Sovo Koda of the Proton laboratory in Japan handed over the water filter to the Chief Minister of the North Central Province Bertie Premalal Dissanayake.
The filter provides 400 litres of pure drinking water per day. Chief Minister Bertie Premalal Dissanayake said that such water filters will be provided to all hospitals in the province in the future.
