New laws will be introduced for the benefit of the Buddha Sasana.
The laws consisting of five special Acts have been presented before the Cabinet. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said that the views and advice of the Maha Sangha will be given priority in compiling the laws. Providing a subsistence allowance for temples in remote areas and the amendment of the Act related the lands belonging to temples and Devales will also be considered among other matters. The aim of this measure is to create a better society through the protection of the religion. The Prime Minister revealed this when he called on the Incumbent of the Atamastana, the Ven. Pallegama Siri Nivasa Thera.
