President Rajapaksa has instructed the officials to submit an immediate plan for streamlined development of the Maha Mewuna Uyana.
He issued these instructions during a discussion on this development process at Temple Trees today. The Sacred Area should be developed under a systematic plan safeguarding the ancient values. The President pointed out that it was of no use in spending a colossal sum on development if it is not properly maintained. Special attention was directed to enhancing facilities to devotees who will be visiting the Maha Mewuna Uyana and the surrounding areas for the forthcoming Poson season.
The conservation of places of historical and archaeological interest under the “Uruma Aruna” programme mooted on a concept enunciated in the “Mahinda Chintana” is already in progress. The President instructed the officials concerned for the submission of an immediate short-term and long-term development plan of the Maha Mewuna Uyana. Members of the Maha Sangha, the Prime Minsiter, Parliamentarians and senior State officials were present at this discussion.
