South Carolina did not receive a national seed in the NCAA baseball tournament Monday, but the Gamecocks may have won a trip to the beach instead.
USC (43-15) must win the first-ever regional at Carolina Stadium as the top seed in a four-team bracket that also features second-seeded Virginia Tech (38-20) of the ACC, third-seeded The Citadel (42-20), the Southern Conference champions, and fourth-seeded Bucknell (25-33), the automatic qualifier out of the Patriot League.
The winner will travel to Myrtle Beach if No. 4 national seed Coastal Carolina, the Big South champion, advances out of its home regional against the College of Charleston, N.C. State and Stony Brook.
But nobody is going to catch USC coach Ray Tanner looking too far ahead.
Im just thinking about Bucknell right now, Tanner said of Fridays opponent. I dont get too far ahead of myself.
