The public railway serving South Carolina's Port of Charleston is getting greener.
Officials on Tuesday plan to announce two locomotives will be refitted with less-polluting engines.
The work is being done with a $106,000 grant from the state Department of Health and Environmental Control. South Carolina Public railways is providing matching money for the project.
Earlier this year, the South Carolina State Ports Authority was honored by the Environmental Protection Agency for using stimulus money to retrofit cargo handling and other diesel equipment so they pollute less.
