A pickup driver died in a fiery wreck in Lexington County late Thursday night.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was the only occupant in a Ford pickup that crashed around 11:55 p.m. at 951 N. Edisto Road, S.C. Highway Patrol trooper Billy Elder said.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the wreck, Elder said. The posted speed limit in the area is 35 mph. Elder said the truck, driving south on North Edisto about two miles west of Pelion, went off the left side of the road, hit a tree and overturned. It then caught fire with the driver trapped inside.
It was not known this morning what caused the driver's death.
