The Government of Japan has decided to grant approximately 1.1 million US dollars through the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons and returnees in Sri Lanka.
A statement issued by the Embassy of Japan in Colombo said Japan will continue its proactive support for the recovery and development of Sri Lanka in cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka as well as the international community. Japan’s overall assistance to Sri Lanka has covered a wide range of the areas to promote development. It has continuously addressed humanitarian needs as well.
The statement said Japan has contributed a sum of approximately 40 million US dollars since 2009 to support humanitarian activities of the Government of Sri Lanka directly or through international agencies, local and international NGOs.
