The World Bank has expressed willingness to support in constructing the Northern Canal. World Bank Resident Representative Dr. Naoko Ishi made this reference during a meeting with Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.
Discussions were held in constructing the northern canal which takes water to the Vaunikulam Tank in the North. The Government has launched the northern canal development scheme to meet the drinking water needs of the people in the North.
The World Bank has agreed to provide assistance to conduct the preliminary feasibility study and thereafter fund the project. They have also decided to support in building 1000 small tanks.
