Government lauded for slashing excise duty on vehicles

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association has praised the initiative taken by the Government to reduce the Excise duty on imported vehicles by 50 percent.

President of the Association, Gemunu Wijeratne said that the reduction in the Excise duty on imported vehicles is a positive measure taken by the Government. As such, the price of a bus will decline to a certain extent. He said they are grateful to the Government for initiating such a step.

He was addressing a news conference in Colombo today. He further said that difficulties confronted by commuters when traveling in buses can be referred to the National Transport Commission. He revealed that his association has presented proposals for the revision of bus fares which takes place on the 1st of July on an annual basis, based on the national policy.
