The Shangri-La Dialogue, was initiated in 2002 in response to the need for a forum to build confidence and foster practical security cooperation. Sri Lanka will be represented by Minister, Prof. G.L. Peiris, Air Force Commander, Air Chief Marshall Roshan Gunatillake, and Army Commander Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya.
Prof. Peiris is due to make a special statement on ‘Counter insurgency and Strengthening Governance. The External Affairs Minister is due to meet Foreign Affairs Minister of Singapore and Defence Ministers of Australia and Thailand on the sidelines of the Summit. He is also due to meet British and American Defence Secretaries.
The Minister will also meet Education Minister, Second Minister of Defence and Acting Attorney General of Singapore. A large number of representatives including Defence and Education Ministers from 27 countries including UK will participate in this annual gathering.
