The FBI is expanding its South Carolina lab used to examine radiological evidence.
The U.S. Energy Department on Thursday is announcing an expansion at the Savannah River National Laboratory near Aiken.
The lab opened in 2006. Officials say it's used in the fight against terrorism to help prepare contaminated evidence so investigators can safely examine it for fingerprints, DNA, fibers or other evidence.
The Energy Department says the new facilities will give the FBI better ways to examine that evidence.
Organizers say U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn and Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., are expected at the former nuclear weapons complex for the announcement.
