Austasia which has the only world body recognised Indoor Cricket Stadium in the Asian region is the facility provider for the Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association and many other recognised local sports bodies.
The Masters open Indoor Cricket Tournament was conducted by the Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association in May 2010. The tournament was held mainly to select squads for the over 30s, 40s and 45s Masters World Cup to be held in the Gold Coast Brisbane, Australia in October this year. The grand finals of the tournament was held at Austasia on May 25 between the strong MAS ACTIVE side and Yalta Masters who got into the finals by beating Harlequins in a thriller.
MAS did not have it easy and was restricted to a moderate 39 off their 16 overs. Yalta began their run chase but very soon found themselves in trouble and unable to cope with some good bowling coupled with some good fielding by MAS ended up with the same score. This was the first time in the Indoor Cricket history of Sri Lanka since 2001 that a tie in a grand final was witnessed. According to the tournament rules a mini game of 8 overs was played soon afterwards which resulted in a comfortable win for MAS ACTIVE who picked up the trophy after an enthralling finish to the competition. The selections for Masters World Cup 2010 will be conducted by CICA and will be held at Austasia Sports Club on a later date.
Austasia also is a recognized facility provider in many sports to sports-crazy countries such as India which includes India’s infamous XLR8 and the Indian Indoor Cricket Federation (IICF) to name a few. Many Indian state teams participate in coaching camps held at Austasia and this follows up with a tournament played on knockout or league basis depending on the duration of their stay.
