Elton Chigumbura won the toss in the dead rubber but resisted the temptation of trying to bat first and win, something that hasn’t been done in the tri-series so far. While Chigumbura said he wanted to take one game at a time, Tillakaratne Dilshan said he would have batted had he won the toss.
Zimbabwe chose to rest Andy Blignaut and Greg Lamb, who played with side strains previously, bringing in Chris Mpofu and Chamu Chibhabha. Sri Lanka tried two fringe players too, Dilhara Fernando and Lahiru Thirimanne, choosing to rest Nuwan Kulasekara and Ajantha Mendis.
