The Sunday Leader Editor has been ordered to appear in Courts with the notebook related to the interview with Sarath Fonseka during the Presidential election period.
The controversial statement said to have been made by Sarath Fonseka was published in the Sunday Leader newspaper on the 9th of December last year. He is accused under Emergency Regulations for making such a false statement. He was produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today. The Deputy Solicitor General Wasantha Navaratne Bandara told the Court that the Sunday Leader Editor Frederica Jansz had turned down a request made to hand over the notebook on the interview to the CID.
Accordingly, notices were issued on the Editor to appear in Courts along with the notebook. Until then, Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratne ordered to place the suspect in Military custody.
