The University of South Carolinas baseball players are no different than anybody else across the state in early June. Theyre headed to the beach.
The Gamecocks, who won their NCAA regional at Carolina Stadium Sunday night, learned Monday the destination of their Super Regional. With national seed Coastal Carolina defeating the College of Charleston 11-10, the Chanticleers will serve as the host team for the best-of-three series against USC this weekend.
The games will be played at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach, home to the Pelicans, a Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The stadium seats 5,200, with a standing-room-only capacity of 6,600.
South Carolina (46-15) is making its eighth Super Regional appearance since the NCAA began using this format in 1999. This will be the second appearance for Coastal (55-8) in a Super Regional and its first as the host.
The Gamecocks have made 26 NCAA tournament appearances, with eight trips to the College World Series, in their history, while the Chanticleers have made 10 NCAA appearances.
