Columbia City Council will give $250,000 to the Midlands Housing Alliance to pay for security of its controversial Main Street homeless center.
Mayor Bob Coble and council members Belinda Gergel, Daniel Rickenmann and Tameika Isaac Devine have pledged to include the money in the city’s budget.
City Council will hold a public hearing on the budget Wednesday. They then must vote twice on the budget before June 30; the new fiscal year begins July 1.
In 2008, City Council offered to help fund the homeless center if the Midlands Housing Alliance would not build it on Main Street, but the housing alliance declined.
