He said that with the assistance of a number of organizations funds will be transferred to the Bank of Ceylon under the supervision of the Central Bank to be issued as loans to the fisher folk. The project will be launched on 1st next month and completed on 31st December 2013. The project covers seven Districts. The President of IFAD is arriving in Sri Lanka on the 23rd. They have agreed to grant 40 million dollars separately for the North.
The aim of the programme is to uplift the small fisheries enterprises that were destroyed due to the tsunami. It is being jointly implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Central Bank and the Post-tsunami Coastal Resources Management programme. 3000 small scale entrepreneurs selected from Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Trincomalee, Ampara and Baticaloa districts will be provided loans under concessionary interest rates. 420 million rupees has been allocated for this purpose.
