Haley, Barrett appear headed for runoff

At the very least, Rep. Nikki Haley, R-Lexington, will face U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett of Oconee County in a June 22 runoff for the GOP gubernatorial nominee. Equally likely is that Haley will win outright when all the votes are counted later tonight.
Still uncounted is Lexington County, which Haley has represented in the S.C. House for the past six years.
With nearly 90 percent of results counted, Haley has nearly 50 percent of the votes while Barrett is in second with nearly 22 percent of votes.
A candidate must garner 50 percent plus one vote to secure the party nomination. The two other contenders, state Attorney General Henry McMaster and Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, are both trailing. McMaster has 17 percent and Bauer 12 percent.
