Training mandatory for male migrant workers

Jun 9, 2010 5:08:31 AM - itnnews.lk

The Chairman of the Foreign Employment Bureau has said that it is mandatory for male workers who leave for the Middle East to undergo training. This is effective from 15th of next month.

So far the rule was applied only for housemaids. Chairman of the Bureau Kingsley Ranawaka said that this rule would hereafter apply also for male workers who do not come under the professional or high-tech categories.

Training would imparted for five days centering on the Arabic language. The training includes the rules, in the country where the worker will be based, money transactions, socializing and problems that can arise at the place of work. The aim of the programme is to prevent language and cultural problems that surface during their working period in the Middle East.
