Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has pointed out that local as well as foreign investors enjoy more opportunities in the face of the speedy development that has been launched by the Sri Lankan Government.
The Prime Minister was speaking while addressing the Sixth Annual Business awards ceremony of the Sri Lanka – Malaysia Business Council. Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamed also graced the occasion.
Meanwhile, the former Malaysian Prime Minister appreciated the economic framework initiated by the Government to suit the country, based on the “Mahinda Chintana”. He made this reference during a meeting with Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the Parliamentary Complex this afternoon. Giving his views, Minister Rajapaksa said the initiatives taken by Dr. Mahathir Mohamed to strengthen Malaysia at that time, is a fitting example to resuscitate Sri lanka’s economy. Mr. Rajapaksa pointed out that it is also an impetus to the fisheries, tourism and agricultural sectors. Dr. Mohamed opined that energy was a key factor for the strengthening of Malaysia during his period. He noted that Sri Lanka should also give due consideration to this factor.
Deputy Minister Geethanjana Gunawardena was present.
Dr. Mohamed also joined in a Malaysia – Sri Lanka business gathering at the Plantation Ministry. It was presided by Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe. Dr. Mahathir Mohamed is visiting Sri Lanka for the fourth occasion. He first arrived in the island in 1962.
