Deputy Minster Faizer Muthafa has said that through proper management of resources the country will be steered towards a green economy.
The Deputy Minster made this observation at a UN seminar on Sustainable Consumption and Development. The Deputy Minster stated that a Committee will be appointed to formulate a national policy on sustainable development. Many problems have arisen in developed countries in the economic, climate, power and drinking water sectors, due to improper consumption patterns. The Green Lanka programme provides an opportunity for the development of human resources while protecting the natural resources. The programme will be implemented until 2016.
Professor Mohan Munasinghe and the representatives from Thailand, Japan and Pakistan were among those present.
