A South Carolina woman accused of leaving her children to die in a sweltering car, then stuffing their bodies in trash bags, is going to trial.
Attorney Andy Savage says a bench trial - a trial before a judge with no jury - is scheduled for Wednesday in Charleston for Sametta Heyward. She faces two counts of homicide by child abuse in the July 2007 deaths of her 4-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter.
Police say Heyward said she went to work at a county-run group home, leaving the toddlers in her car with battery-powered fans, food and drinks. Authorities said the temperature may have reached 130 degrees.
Police allege that when she got home, she washed and dressed the toddler's bodies and stuffed them in trash bags in her Hanahan apartment.
