The Ninth Asia Pacific Regional Meeting on Sustainable Consumption and Development opened in Colombo today. Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratne was the Chief Guest at the inaugural sessions. Expressing his views on the occasion, the Prime Minister said it is time for them to work together to find ways and means of rapid economic development without endangering the lives of their own future generations. He said not only they, but also their future generations need high quality of life.
The Prime Minister was confident that networks of this nature can bring all stakeholders together to find environmentally friendly and socially acceptable solutions to burning problems of the world. Minister Risath Bathiyuideen and UNIDO Director General Dr. Kandeh Yumkella were among those present.
