Addressing a news briefing in today, he said that the war is now over and improvements were taking place in the island. He had spoken to people of different communities and they all want peace. They are very appreciative of the effort made to give a role for minorities as well as the majority. He was quite sure that with this understanding of all the communities and the policies of the government to focus on development, Sri Lanka would soon witness rapid growth than over the past 30 years.
Pointing out that Sri Lanka was well ahead of Malaysia when it gained independence because of the problems in the last 30 years Sri Lanka’s development was retarded. He pointed out that it is far better to resolve differences through negotiations than resort to fighting. He wished the people of Sri Lanka all the best.
