A retired Seattle lawyer has been charged with sending a powder-laced letter to South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint.
Blake Howe was charged with attempted destruction of government property. Federal prosecutors say he mailed an envelope with baking soda, staples and paperclips to DeMint's office.
Court documents unsealed Thursday say Howe admitted to the mailing and did it because he was mad about the "propaganda" DeMint's office sent him and he wanted to sabotage DeMint's mail processing equipment.
Howe was arrested Wednesday and released. He declined to comment to The Associated Press on Thursday.
