Rehabilitated ex-combatants re-integrated into society

Hundreds of young men and women of the North who contributed to spreading terrorism have been reintegrated into society.

These ex-combatants were rehabilitated for a period of nine months. Members of the Defence Sectors made a vital contribution in imparting them vocational training and also raising awareness about society. These youth have now realized the crimes they have committed by getting involved in a terrorist outfit. They are now stepping into a new era.

A rehabilitated ex-combatant thanked the President for ending the war. He said he had doubts about their lives if any other person ended the war. Another combatant said that they received happiness and entertainment. They have not sinned and are fortunate. They expected too make some contribution for the benefit of this small country.

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa met rehabilitated ex-combatants who received vocational training and handed out proficiency certificates at the Senapura Rehabilitation Centre in Welikanda. Chiefs of the Armed Forces and the Acting IGP joined in this occasion.

Expressing his view the Defence Secretary said all of these youth have the capability of directing their lives on the right track. They had been duped by the LTTE outfit and now they have been re-integrated into society after rehabilitation.
