Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejang arrives in Sri Lanka on a three-day official visit. This is also his first visit to the island.
The Chinese Vice Premier reached the island last night. On arrival at the Katunayaka International Airport on a special flight, he was warmly greeted by Minister Maithripala Sirisena and Deputy Ministers Geethanjana Gunawardena and Siripala Gamlath. Thereafter he signed the special Guests Book at the Airport. The Chinese Vice Premier is accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including some Parliamentarians.
The Chinese Vice Premier called on Minister Basil Rajapaksa this morning. Discussions centtred on important matters related to the development that is taking place in the island. Basil Rajapaksa appreciated the support given by China for Sri Lanka’s development. Chinese Ambassador Yang Xiuping was present at this meeting.
Zhang Dejang aos called on Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa. The meeting took place at the Parliamentary Complex. The talks dealt on the launching of a Friendship Association of Parliamentarians of the two countries to fortify cooperation between the Parliaments of the two countries. The visiting Chinese leader assured continued support to Sri Lanka.
The Chinese visitors visited the Independence Square and the National Museum. They were warmly greeted by Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi. The visitors’ attention was mainly drawn to the Chinese clay products, coins and other artifacts received from China and which are on display at the Museum
