The signing took place before Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna and visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang. The Prime Minister expressed these views at a function that followed.
The Prime Minister said that China has is also willing to invest in several industries. He said that a number of Chinese company officials and entrepreneurs will be arriving in the island to undertake investments.
Secretary to the Finance Ministry P.B. Jayasundara and Assistant Minister of Commercial Affairs in China Wang Chao signed an agreement on economic and technological cooperation and on apparatus required for the maintenance of the BMICH.
Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena signed an MOU on harbour activities. An MOU was signed by the industry and IT Ministry of China and the Post and Telecommunication Ministry of Sri Lanka. Premasiri and President of the Chinese National Technical Import and Export Corporation Tang Yei signed an agreement on transport development in the Southern Province.
500,000 dollars were donated to the “Tharunyata Hetak” organization to improve IT knowledge of the youth. The Chairman of the Z.T.E Corporation of China made the donation to President of the Tharunayata Hetak organization, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa.
