In Richland County, 20 percent of households have mailed back their 2010 Census forms.
Lexington County is doing even better with a 23 percent return rate.
And both counties are performing better than state and national averages, according to a Census Bureau online tracking program.
So far, 18 percent of S.C. households have returned their forms. Forms were mailed on March 15. April 1 is the official Census date.
State officials have made a big push this year to get a high return rate. In 2000, the state had the second-worst initial return rate.
