The epicenter of the quake was 107 miles west of Misha on the Nicobar Islands at a depth of 20.5 miles. Information on the quake was reported in the wee hours of today. Tsunami warnings were issued for residents of many coastal areas. The people were made aware of the warning through Signal Towers and Police messages.
Our reporters said that residents of many areas had evacuated to safer places by 2.30 this morning. However the warning was later withdrawn and the people have now returned to their homes.
