W. Columbia businessman jailed

A West Columbia business owner is in jail after he allegedly failed to pay his sales tax returns to the state.
Edward T. Williams Jr., 57, who owns Columbia Screen and Awning Company was jailed on charges of operating a retail business without a license, the S.C. Department of Revenue reported.
Williams? business license was revoked in October 2009 after he allegedly failed to filed his sales tax returns and did not pay money owed to the revenue department, according to an arrest warrant. Employees of the revenue department returned to the business in January and February and determined that it was still in operation, the arrest warrant said.
The revenue department did not report how much Williams owed in unpaid taxes.
