Big guns return for Sri Lanka

Jun 15, 2010 2:42:44 AM - srilankacricket.lk

Skipper Kumar Sangakkara, star batsman Mahela Jayawadena, spin king Muttiah Muralidharan, fast bowler Lasith Malinga and all rounder Farveez Maharoof will strengthen the Sri Lankan team with their return  for today’s Micromax Asia Cup game against Pakistan to be played in Dambulla. This will help  Sri Lanka immensely to defend the title as Asian champions.

Sri Lanka has opted to go with a solitary spin bowling option with the return of worlds best spinner Muttiah Muralidharan. 24 Year old all rounder Farveez Maharoof will be making a much awaited comeback to the national team after recovering from a series of niggling injuries.

Sri Lanka on paper has strengthened their middle order with Jayawardena, Samraweera and Mathews set to add stability to the innings with their experience. Kapugedara and Maharoof  will inject  added firepower to the lower middle order which would come in handy during the latter part of the innings.

Bright sunshine is experienced at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium (RDICS) currently, and is expected to continue for the remainder of the day. The match is set to get underway at 1430hrs (SLT).

Sri Lankan team for todays game: Tharanga, Dilshan, Sangakkara (C/ WK), Jayawardena, Samaraweera, Mathews, Kapugedara, Maharoof, Kulasekara, Malinga and Muralidharan.
